Wrapped in nostalgia and warmth, Rosie Gault channels personal growth throughout her music. As she grows, so does her music. Through relatable lyrics and enchanting melodies, Gault offers a haven for listeners to unwind and take a break from their busy lives. Her music thrives off community and vulnerability, creating a safe space rooted in personal connection. Gault has the magical ability to speak directly to each listener, making them feel loved and heard.

As she releases her debut EP ‘Songs From Winter’, listeners are given a special peek behind the curtain. Written during a bitter December in Gault's rural hometown in Lincolnshire, each track was written in her childhood bedroom. Inspired by countless walks around local parks and visits with longtime friends, this EP feels like a Christmas homecoming. ‘Songs From Winter’ evokes that bittersweetness of childhood nostalgia. The feeling of returning home during that one long week when everyone is back in their hometown. A week full of reminiscing about teenage antics and one too many pub trips. It is a homecoming personified. Each track explores a distinct aspect of Gault's transition into adulthood. From first heartbreak to guilt-ridden emotions, this EP reflects on her teenage years and their effects on her in early adulthood. ‘Songs From Winter’ poses the question: do we ever stop growing? And how does heartbreak shape us?
This waterfall release allows each song to create its own life before becoming part of a bigger story. Building the emotion and tension for each song, as if the EP is a puzzle that the audience solves each week.
On the 20th of July, Gault provided the first taste of ‘Songs From Winter.’ Daisy perfectly captures the message and sound of this EP. From the first note, the slight chill of winter is welcomed in. Despite the blazing heat, the production creates a feeling of an inviting coldness, similar to the bitter sadness of nostalgia. Over a lush melody, Gault sings about her first heartbreak, a lost friend and a loss of adolescence. Daisy is a strikingly honest song about one of the hardest parts of adulthood. Through a stream of consciousness, Gault offers a space for anyone who has outgrown a childhood friend, sharing the pain of losing a bit of yourself with them. Acting as a letter that never got sent and representing a story that will never have official closure. This is the best Gault can do to close a painful chapter.
Despite its waterfall release, two songs can not be separated. Daisy and Tell Me Again come as an unofficial pair. Written on the same night, Tell Me Again offers the alternate side to a painful breakup. Although this song is inspired by romantic heartache, it still covers the same ground. As at the end of the day, what is the difference between romantic and platonic love? Fueled by nostalgia and the painful question of what if, ‘Tell Me Again’ questions the truthfulness behind the right person at the wrong time trope. Throughout this pop ballad, Gault argues that there is no such thing and acts as a mask for bad communication and a lack of trying. Reminiscent of Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour album, ‘Tell Me Again’ is a track that lays Gault’s vulnerable heart on the line, an insight into personal heartbreak.

Wrapped up neatly in 4 tracks, Gault expresses the complex emotions of being wronged and wronging someone else. Narrating every emotion of heartbreak, from the instant sadness to growing guilt to the bittersweetness of progression. Each track tells its own story, and once put together, they build into a vulnerable exploration of a relatable human experience. ‘Songs From Winter’ sees Gault reflect on her childhood as she concludes that without heartbreak, she would not be the person she is today. In 15 minutes, Gault captures the feeling of coming back in the dead of winter to a place that stayed the same despite personal growth.
Through grief, guilt, and reflection, Gault has created a beautiful debut project. One that was full of thought and care. From the lyrics to the melodies, everything has a purpose. ‘Songs From Winter’ captures the moment summer starts to slip away and the coldness sneaks in. Through the production, Gault transports the listeners to a frozen, enchanted forest where her memories lie ready for a new audience. With so much care and thought, it will be interesting to see where Gault goes from here. She is a small artist that shows the same promise as songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers and Maisie Peters, who write so honestly it almost hurts.
